Known as the TransManche Super Train (TMST) or Cross-channel Super Train before being introduced in 1993, the train is designated Class 373 under the British TOPS classification system and series 373000 TGV in France.

Due to a shortage of rolling stock, between May 2000 and December 2005 GNER leased initially four, then a total of six, half units for use on their "White Rose" service between Kings Cross and York, but soon moved them to the Kings Cross to Leeds corridor.

Aug 25, 2024 · GNER used to operate 3 North of London class 373 (in absolutely beautiful livery). Is there a known reason why they weren't kept by GNER and just sent back after their 5 year lease expired? Is this purely because of the gauge issues north of Newcastle? I was quite surprised to hear that GNER ran NOL's !

The short-formed sets commenced service on the East Coast Main Line in summer 2000, their sheer length proving that Kings Cross could only just about accommodate them. The formations lasted in this domestic capacity until 10th December 2005, after which they were returned to North Pole Depot, pending a new use.

Feb 7, 2019 · Firstly, the 1st northbound service of the day in the morning peak initially had to start at Peterborough rather than King's Cross due to the sheer amount of power they drew. The power supply was later upgraded, rectifying this issue and allowing them to run to 'The Cross'.

The only platform at Kings Cross capable of accommodating the "Regional" Class 373 sets was No. 1. Even then, however, the power car at the northern end of the formation fouled the points to platform 2. Platform 1 was equipped with two starting signals, one of these catering for long train formations such as the Class 373 sets and any rail tours.
