SAO PAULO (AP) — Mexico, Chile and Uruguay have halted poultry imports from Brazil after the country confirmed its first bird flu outbreak on a commercial farm, authorities said Saturday. On Friday, Brazil's Agriculture and Livestock ministry said China and the European Union had halted poultry imports from Brazil.

Brazil's Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro told Reuters on Friday that he does not expect trade partners to fully ban Brazilian poultry imports given the importance of the country as a global supplier.

Mexico said on Saturday it is suspending imports of poultry products from Brazil after the South American country confirmed its first outbreak of bird flu on a poultry farm.
