Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to end the war in Ukraine, Donald Trump has said as he raised the prospect of more sanctions on Russia. The U.S. president told reporters aboard Air Force One that he was "very unhappy" with his earlier phone call with the Russian leader as Moscow said it would continue to pursue its war aims.

After speaking to Putin on Thursday, Trump plans to speak to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday, he said in remarks to reporters on his return to Washington from a trip to Iowa. "I'm very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don't think he's there, and I'm very disappointed," Trump said.
