Millions of people across the northern Gulf Coast braced Tuesday for a rare winter storm that’s expected to scatter heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain around the Deep South as a blast of Arctic air plunges much of the eastern U.S. into a deep freeze.

Winter Storm Enzo has brought rare, record-breaking snow to parts of the Gulf Coast, snarling travel and resulting in historic snowfall totals from New Orleans to Florida. New Orleans picked up 8 inches, making it the heaviest snowfall there in modern day records (since 1948) and the city's biggest total in over 100 years.

Snow totals in Louisiana have broken records. Parts of Florida, Texas and Georgia have also accumulated several inches of snow.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Strong winter storms slamming the U.S. are also impacting travelers in Central Florida. Flight delays and cancellations are building at Orlando International Airport on Tuesday. Some of the issues in Orlando are related to two airports that have shut down in Houston due to the weather.
