Indian ride-hailing firm Ola Consumer on Friday said it does not set fares based on a user's phone model, a day after global rival Uber denied allegations of differential pricing for Android and Apple phones.

App-based cab service aggregators Uber and Ola have rejected claims that they charge varying prices based on users' phone models. They clarified the issue on Friday saying they did not set fares based on a user's phone model after the government sent notices to them over alleged differential pricing based on the type of mobile device used to book rides.

On January 23, notices were sent by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to ride-hailing services Ola and Uber due to allegations of differential pricing based on the type of mobile phone used to book rides.

An Indian government body has sent notices to ride-hailing firms Ola and Uber over alleged differential pricing for Android and Apple phones, the country's consumer affairs minister, Pralhad Joshi, said in a post on X on Thursday.

Prahlad Joshi, while replying to a news report about Uber and Ola's differential pricing for iPhone and Android phones, had said there was "zero tolerance for consumer exploitation".

Ola and Uber have denied allegations of differential pricing based on phone models, stating they don't set fares based on a user's phone manufacturer. This comes after the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) sent notices to the companies following reports of varying fares for identical rides depending on whether customers used iPhones or Android devices.
