Houston is preparing for a historic winter storm expected to bring up to 6 inches of snow, a rare event not seen in decades.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire urged Houston residents to not get complacent now that the snow has stopped falling "Hear me!" Whitmire beckoned at a Tuesday press conference. "We're halfway there. The next 24 hours will be the most dangerous.

City and county officials encouraged people to stay off of the major roadways Wednesday, when the Houston region emerged from a rare winter storm.

After facing iced-over roads and snow, Houston-area package delivery companies are set to resume regular hours for the rest of the week. Delivery services such as Amazon and UPS temporarily pauses services earlier this week due to the winter weather.

Clouds will be on the increase throughout the day Saturday, with a few showers possible early. There's a better chance for showers Saturday evening and Saturday night. Temperatures will climb to the low to middle 60s by Saturday afternoon.

Record-setting snow swept throughout states like Louisiana, Texas and Alabama on Tuesday, putting them out of commission through Wednesday.

A powerful and rare winter storm that slammed the Houston area with snow on Tuesday forced the closure of both William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), but thanks to the hard work by crews the airports were able to resume normal operations on Wednesday.

Houston's two airports reopened after being closed for 24 hours because of the winter storm. Now, airline passengers are trying to get things back on track.
