What is a Level 5 severe weather risk? When was the last time Alabama faced one?
According to the National Weather Service, this is only the third time Alabama has been put into a Level 5 risk two days out since 2006. It’s also notably only the third time in Storm Prediction Center history that a Level 5 risk has been added to the Day 2 forecast:

This is only the third time since 2006 and likely only the third time in their history that a High Risk of severe weather was issued on Day 2, according to the NWS Storm Prediction Center. Typically, the Storm Prediction Center will issue a High Risk on Day 1, which would begin at 1 a.m. CST on Saturday.
