The United Arab Emirates has been in discussions about the possibility of playing a role in postwar efforts to rebuild Gaza, but its conditions for doing so have yet to be met, a UAE official told CNN.

The discussions included the possibility of the UAE and the US, along with other nations, temporarily overseeing the governance.

The UAE has put its name forward to take part in overseeing the governance of a 'post-war' Gaza, though Hamas has rejected the idea of foreign interference.

The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, has held talks with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar in the Gulf nation, the UAE state news agency (WAM) reported on Tuesday.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Gideon Saar, Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi where the talks focused on bilateral relations between the two countries,

The United Arab Emirates has discussed with Israel and the United States participating in a provisional administration of post-war Gaza until a reformed Palestinian Authority is able to take charge, according to people familiar with the talks.

The UAE is a close security partner of the U.S. and, unlike most Arab governments, has diplomatic ties with Israel.
