A man thought to be a citizen of Bangladesh was arrested in India's financial capital Mumbai on Sunday and is considered the prime suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, police said.

Actor Saif Ali Khan was hospitalized with 6 stab wounds after confronting an intruder in his Bandra home. The suspect, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, allegedly from Bangladesh, was arrested.

Xx was arrested by the Mumbai Police on xx January, in connection with the Saif Ali Khan knife attack. They’ve been booked under xyz charges. The police formed 20 teams to find the accused after Saif Ali Khan was attacked at home on 16 January.

The Mumbai police said crucial CCTV footage from a mobile shop in Dadar helped them identify the accused as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad.
