The bill cleared a key hurdle early this morning after the president and House Speaker Mike Johnson persuaded a group of Republican holdouts to change their votes.

The House floor was in suspended animation all afternoon and evening and then again through midnight as GOP leaders held votes open. For a while, there were five Republicans voting against a procedural motion—enough to block the bill—and Trump was posting on social media to urge them to get in line. They relented after 3 a.m.

The House is holding a key procedural vote to advance President Donald Trump’s agenda bill, but there’s currently not enough GOP support to move it forward, putting the bill in potential jeopardy.
